Once called the sex symbol of Hollywood, his gaze from the screen made the hearts of millions of women around the world skip a beat. In the 1980s, Mickey Rourke was a star – charismatic, rebellious, dangerous and vulnerable at the same time.
His roles in 9 1/2 Weeks, Barfly, and Angel Heart earned him a reputation as an actor with powerful energy and extraordinary screen presence.
But as the years passed, he became less and less recognizable with each passing decade. Not because the public forgot his name, but because Mickey Rourke literally changed his face.

After leaving the cinema in the early 1990s, he took up boxing seriously. His love for the ring cost him not only his health, but also his appearance: a broken nose, injuries to his cheekbones, face, and lips.
To restore his former appearance, he went under the knife of plastic surgeons. But, as often happens, the interventions were unsuccessful.
One after another – facelifts, reconstructions, cartilage transplants. He himself admitted:
“I went to the wrong people, who ruined my face” . Instead of youth, he received disfigurement.

When Mickey appeared in public, many could not believe their eyes: there was no trace of the former handsome man. His face became a mask – stretched, disproportionate, artificial.
Plastic surgery, attempts to hold on to time, emotional wounds and loneliness – all this left its mark not only on his appearance, but also on his career.
Hollywood, which had loved Rourke so much in his youth, turned its back on him. He stopped getting leading roles and was increasingly cast as a strange, frightening character.
