When we first saw Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films, he was a comedic character: chubby, awkward, always with a frog or in trouble. But 20 years later, actor Matthew Lewis has transformed into a sex symbol, so much so that the internet still can’t recover. Where is he now, and why isn’t Matthew thrilled about the title of “Hot Neville”?
At the time of casting for Harry Potter, Lewis was only 11 years old. For the role of Neville Longbottom, they artificially crooked his teeth, dressed him in a costume that made him appear fuller, and applied special cheek pads. In real life, he looked completely different, but the audience never saw that. Until the end of the Harry Potter saga.

In 2015, Matthew stunned fans with a revealing photoshoot for Attitude magazine. He appeared in underwear and showed off abs that could put Thor’s to shame. His face was unrecognizable.
The internet’s reaction was explosive: Lewis was immediately crowned the new sex symbol. Even J.K. Rowling jokingly wrote:
“I didn’t think I’d see Neville in his underwear before breakfast. Thanks, Matthew.”

After Harry Potter, Lewis didn’t disappear from the radar. He appeared in the series The Syndicate (2012), The Butcher’s Street (2016), the drama Me Before You (2016), and the film The Terminal (2016). His recent projects include the British sitcom Baby Done (2020) and the series All Creatures Great and Small (2021), where Matthew once again proves that he not only has a beautiful body but also strong acting skills.

Interestingly, Lewis isn’t thrilled about the attention to his looks. In interviews, he admitted that the phrase “hot Neville” annoys him and that he’d rather people talk more about his work than his steel-like abs.

In his personal life, the actor enjoys stability. In 2018, Matthew married blogger and producer Angela Jones. They met… at Universal Studios, at a Harry Potter fan event. It seems magic really does exist!
