“Moon Face,” Internet Users Helped Amy Schumer Find Out the Problem Following Pregnancy

Amy Schumer recently stated that if people had not made cruel remarks online, she might not have found a significant health concern.

During an interview with Alex Cooper, Amy revealed that people on the internet had suddenly started criticizing her appearance, particularly the way her face looked.

“A year ago, the Internet really came for me,” she told me.

At first, she dismissed it: “I was like, ‘Okay, everybody, like, relax.'”

But things became strange when doctors began jumping in on the conversation—not to be nasty, but to point out that something might truly be wrong. “Doctors were chiming in in the comments, and they were, like, ‘No, no … something’s really up.'”

After reading those comments, Amy decided to get tested. That’s when she discovered she had Cushing syndrome, a disorder in which the body produces too much cortisol, a stress hormone. It is frequently caused by long-term steroid usage and can result in symptoms such as weight gain, acne, and an extremely puffy face, also known as “moon face.”

She learned about this just before filming her Netflix feature, Kinda Pregnant.

“I learned I had this condition, and that I had something called moon face, and I’m starring in a movie — and there’s a camera right in my face.”

Amy later understood the cause: she had been taking steroid injections to treat scars from her breast reduction surgery and C-section, “Wait, I have been getting steroid injections for my scars.”

Amy and her husband, Chris Fischer, welcomed their baby Gene in 2019, and the injections helped her recuperate.

Fortunately, Amy claims the problem resolved on its own.

Looking back, Amy admits that if it hadn’t been for the internet turmoil, she might never have discovered her problem.
