Sam Elliott, an actor known for his iconic roles in Westerns, has been a popular Hollywood star for over 50 years. Elliott’s career began with minor roles in classic Westerns before he made his breakthrough in the 1976 non-Western film The Rescue.
His personal and professional lives became intertwined when he met actress Katharine Ross on the set of The Inheritance in 1978. Their relationship led to marriage in 1984 and the birth of a daughter, Cleo Rose Elliott.
Ross, an acclaimed actress known for her roles in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and numerous Western shows, shares a “common affinity” with Elliott. Their collaborations, including Conagher, for which Elliott was nominated for a Golden Globe, and a benefit performance of Love Letters, highlight their creative chemistry.
Katharine Ross began her acting career in San Francisco and then moved to television, particularly Westerns. Seven years after Elliott, she was inducted into the National Cowboy Museum’s Hall of Great Western Performers.
During his acting career, his distinctive voice became widely known, which provided him with the financial security to choose roles based on the script rather than monetary need.
