“90 Day Fiancé” personality Chuck Potthast passes away at 64 after battle with brain cancer

Chuck Potthast, father of 90 Day Fiancé star Elizabeth Castravet and a frequent presence on the hit TLC show, has died following a battle with brain cancer. He was 64.

Castravet shared the heartbreaking news on Sunday, revealing that her father had passed away two weeks earlier.

“Two weeks ago, devastation hit our family and it has completely broken us,” she wrote on Instagram. “My sweet, kind, and devoted dad went to heaven. We are still trying to figure out how to move forward without him. Please respect our privacy during this incredibly painful time.”

His daughter Becky, who also appeared in the franchise, posted her own emotional message.

“Two weeks ago today, my world shifted into something unrecognizable,” she wrote. “My dad, Chuck, went home to be with the Lord. The grief is still more than I can bear, so this is all I can say.”

Potthast was featured numerous times on 90 Day Fiancé throughout Elizabeth’s storyline as she became engaged to—and later married—Andrei Castravet, during a time when her family questioned his intentions. Potthast played a central role in their family dynamics over several seasons.

He had previously overcome bladder cancer in 2016 and spoke openly about his health challenges in a 2022 episode of 90 Day Diaries. According to the Mayo Clinic, Potthast ultimately passed away from glioblastoma, a highly aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer.

Just months earlier, in September, he shared a video update from his hospital bed after undergoing extensive surgery.

“What was meant to be a three- to four-hour operation to fix hernias from my past cancer surgeries turned into much more,” he explained. “They discovered my stomach wall had completely collapsed and had to repair it.”
The surgery ended up lasting eight hours.

Despite everything, he remained optimistic:
“The upside is I now have a flat stomach, which is pretty cool,” he joked. “Thank you to everyone for your prayers and support. They truly helped me through it.”
