“It Was Hurtful”: Chris Noth Explains Why His Friendship With Sarah Jessica Parker Fell Apart

Chris Noth, the actor best known for portraying Mr. Big opposite Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City, has opened up about why he is no longer close with his former co-star.

The 71-year-old addressed the fallout in an interview scheduled to air early next week, though People obtained advance details ahead of its release.

According to Noth, the rift dates back to 2021, when sexual misconduct allegations against him surfaced—an episode that ultimately reshaped both his career and personal relationships. In recent comments, he placed responsibility for the breakdown of his friendship with Parker squarely on her response at the time.

Noth is set to discuss the matter on the January 26, 2026, episode of Really Famous with Kara Mayer Robinson. In excerpts shared by People on January 22, the actor said his estrangement from Parker stemmed from her decision to publicly support his accusers.

In December 2021, two women accused Noth of inappropriate behavior in incidents dating back to 2004 and 2015, allegations he has consistently denied. Following the claims, his role in the Sex and the City revival And Just Like That was sharply reduced, and he was dropped from CBS’s The Equalizer.

At the time, Parker—along with SATC co-stars Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis—issued a joint statement expressing support for the women who had come forward. “We are deeply saddened to hear the allegations against Chris Noth,” they said, adding that they stood by the accusers and commended them for speaking out.

Reflecting on that moment, Noth described the cast’s response as “sad,” “disappointing,” and “surprising.” He said he was especially hurt that none of them reached out to hear his side, despite their long history together.

“That was painful,” he said. “And it changed everything.”

The interview follows renewed attention sparked by Noth’s recent social media activity. Earlier this month, rather than congratulating Parker on receiving the Carol Burnett Award at the Golden Globes, Noth posted a gym photo to mark the start of 2026. When a follower commented, “You mean f**k SJP & her award, right?” Noth replied simply: “Right.”

In the interview, Noth reflected on how the controversy clarified which relationships truly mattered. “You find out who your real friends are,” he said. “That’s important.”

He also insisted he would not have publicly turned his back on his co-stars had their roles been reversed.

Noth has repeatedly denied all allegations, stating that the encounters described were consensual. In response to the original reporting by The Hollywood Reporter, he said the claims were “categorically false.”

Following the initial accusations, additional women came forward, bringing the total number of accusers to five. Among them were a stand-in from Sex and the City and singer-songwriter Lisa Gentile, who alleged misconduct in the early 2000s. Past legal documents, including a restraining order filed by an ex-girlfriend in 1995, also resurfaced during the fallout.

Despite the controversy, Noth has returned to acting, most recently appearing in the 2025 project The Block. With his career slowly regaining momentum, he appears more willing to reflect publicly on the professional and personal costs of the past several years.

As one online commenter put it: “He seems better off now”—even as tensions between Noth and Parker remain unresolved.
