Woman once caught in Amy Winehouse love triangle found dead at 47 as police investigate ‘unexplained’ death

A woman who was once entangled in a highly publicized love triangle with the late Amy Winehouse has been found dead at her home, with police describing the circumstances surrounding her death as “unexplained.”

Sarah Aspin, 47, began a relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil — the Back to Black singer’s former husband — in 2011, following the collapse of his turbulent marriage to Winehouse. The pair reportedly met while in rehabilitation and later went on to have two children together, though their relationship remained clouded by Blake’s complicated romantic past.

During that time, Sarah was vocal about her relationship, even reportedly warning Amy to stay away from Blake, insisting that he was now committed to her and their family. Just days later, Fielder-Civil was sentenced to 32 months in prison for burglary and a firearm offence. Shortly after his imprisonment began, Amy Winehouse was found dead from alcohol poisoning. The singer had previously said that Blake was the only person she believed could save her.

Sarah and Fielder-Civil are believed to have separated in 2018.

Following Sarah’s death, her daughter Melody-Rose Hampshire shared a heartbreaking tribute online, writing that there were “no words” to describe her loss. She expressed her love for her mother, said the situation felt unreal, and described life without her as unimaginable.

Police confirmed they are investigating Sarah’s death at a property in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Emergency services were called to an address in the Swillington area early on Saturday morning after a concern-for-welfare report. Paramedics treated a woman at the scene, but she sadly died shortly afterward. Authorities stated that her death is not being treated as suspicious but remains unexplained.

A man who was present at the property was arrested for an unrelated offence and later taken into custody. Officers and forensic teams remained at the home until Sunday evening as investigations continued. Flowers were later placed outside the property as shocked neighbours gathered nearby.

Sarah’s cousin, Leanne Eastwood, paid tribute online, describing her as a “beautiful” person and expressing hope that she had finally found peace.

Neighbours said Sarah had faced significant struggles over the years but had appeared to be turning her life around after welcoming another child. However, they added that there had been recent disturbances at the property, including police activity.

In the days following Amy Winehouse’s death in July 2011, Sarah spoke publicly about Blake’s devastation while he was serving his sentence at Armley Prison. She recalled visiting him on the day she turned 33, describing his uncontrollable grief and shock at losing Amy.

Sarah acknowledged the deep bond between Amy and Blake, calling them soulmates despite their inability to maintain a stable relationship. She admitted it was painful to accept that Blake still loved Amy, but said she understood the intensity of their connection. She also believed Amy struggled emotionally after learning that Sarah and Blake had a child together, adding that Amy would have been a wonderful mother.

Amy Winehouse and Blake Fielder-Civil first met in 2005, beginning a whirlwind romance that quickly became infamous. Just weeks after meeting, Amy tattooed Blake’s name on her chest. They married in Miami in 2007, but their relationship was plagued by addiction and instability, eventually leading to divorce in 2009.

Amy later poured her heartbreak into some of her most iconic songs, including You Know I’m No Good and Back to Black, which chronicled their volatile love story and painful separation.
