Hollywood icon celebrates 76th birthday over lunch with longtime assistant — barely recognizable from her ’70s heyday. Who is she?

Hollywood legend Cybill Shepherd marked her 76th birthday in Los Angeles on Wednesday, sharing the occasion with her devoted assistant.

The actress was spotted leaving a restaurant, wearing a floral jacket and jeans with her hair tied in a neat bun, resting a hand on her assistant’s shoulder. The assistant carried a striped tote, which appeared to belong to Shepherd.

Born in Memphis, Shepherd rose to fame with the hit series Moonlighting, starring opposite Bruce Willis as Maddie Hayes to his David Addison, earning acclaim for their on-screen chemistry.

Shepherd’s career also includes iconic film roles, notably playing Robert De Niro’s love interest in Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year. The 1976 drama was nominated for multiple Oscars, including Best Picture, and Shepherd’s performance has been widely praised over the years, even though she didn’t receive an Academy Award nomination.

On television, she won acclaim for Moonlighting (1985–1989), earning two Golden Globes in 1986 and 1987 and an Emmy nomination in 1988. Despite their on-screen rapport, Shepherd and Willis reportedly had a tense off-screen relationship, with Shepherd later admitting, “At one point in the show, it had gotten to where we just hated each other.”

Shepherd later starred in the CBS sitcom Cybill (1995–1997), earning three Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe win in 1996, followed by another nomination in 1997.

Her most recent role was in the 2023 TV movie How to Murder Your Husband, written and directed by Stephen Tolkin, where she played author Nancy Crampton-Brophy alongside Steve Guttenberg, Sandy Minh Abley, and Primo Allon.

Nowadays, Shepherd remains active on stage and in music, sharing behind-the-scenes stories and career highlights in her show Cybill Shepherd: Queen of the Lucky Club.
