Paul McCartney has admitted he can be overbearing and says he understands why some people believe he was responsible for the breakup of The Beatles. Now 83, the legendary musician explores his life after the band’s split in his Prime Video documentary Paul McCartney: Man On The Run, reflecting on his solo career and his time with Wings.

Speaking with director Morgan Neville, McCartney confessed that when he hears criticism aimed at him, he often accepts it. He said that when people claimed he broke up the Beatles or was too controlling, he eventually started to believe it himself.
The documentary has also stirred deep emotions for him. At a London screening earlier this year, McCartney shared how moving it was to see footage of his late wife, Linda McCartney, who died in 1998. Watching their life together — their children, the music, even moments with John Lennon — felt like seeing his whole life flash before his eyes. Despite a few awkward memories, he said he came away feeling at peace, calling the family moments beautiful and admitting it was emotional to see Linda looking so radiant and full of life.

Meanwhile, fans recently got a first look at the upcoming four-part Beatles film project directed by Sam Mendes. Paul Mescal will portray McCartney, alongside Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Harris Dickinson as Lennon.
Images shared by Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts — the school McCartney co-founded in 1996 — show the actors in character, including scenes set at Liverpool’s iconic Cavern Club, where the Beatles first built their reputation in the early 1960s before manager Brian Epstein helped launch them to global fame.

Sony confirmed that all four films are slated for release in April 2028, with additional casting including Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd, Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, and Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Cox. The films are being shot at London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios, where much of the Beatles’ most iconic music was recorded.
