In the ’90s, Rider Strong captured hearts as Shawn Hunter on Boy Meets World — the witty, troubled, and lovable best friend to Cory. The show remains a fan favorite to this day, and Strong later reprised his role in the sequel series Girl Meets World. Reflecting on the show’s lasting appeal, he once shared that its popularity comes down to one simple idea: comfort — with many fans still turning to it as a source of nostalgia and familiarity.

After rising to fame, Strong took a thoughtful approach to revisiting his iconic role. While he initially hesitated to return for Girl Meets World, worried it might limit his future as an actor, he ultimately agreed under one condition — that he and his brother, Shiloh Strong, would also get the chance to direct episodes. By the time the series ended in 2017, Strong had directed 18 episodes, expanding his role behind the camera.

Following Boy Meets World, Strong pursued his academic interests, graduating from Columbia University with a degree in English literature. His love for books continues today through his podcast Literary Disco, where he and his co-hosts discuss everything from classic novels to modern reads, often with a playful, intellectual twist.

Although he appeared in films like Cabin Fever and Borderland, Strong eventually found greater fulfillment behind the scenes. He has directed music videos, co-written and directed award-winning short films like Irish Twins, and even penned a stage play titled Never Ever Land. In addition, he’s taken on voice work, including narrating audiobooks such as Scar Tissue, the memoir by Anthony Kiedis.

Outside of his career, Strong is focused on family life. He married actress Alexandra Barreto in 2013, and the couple welcomed their son, Indigo, the following year. While their son already shows signs of a natural performer, Strong has said he and his wife are cautious about pushing him toward acting too early.

Today, Rider Strong has successfully transitioned from teen heartthrob to a multifaceted creative — balancing directing, writing, and family life while still holding a special place in the hearts of ’90s TV fans.
