ABC canceled the upcoming season of “The Bachelorette” … The reason will shock you.

Reports suggest that each episode of The Bachelorette carries a production cost of around $2 million, making its sudden cancellation a potentially massive financial blow.

According to multiple outlets, ABC could lose tens of millions of dollars after pulling season 22—featuring Taylor Frankie Paul—just days before its scheduled March 22 premiere. The decision came after newly surfaced footage from 2023 allegedly showed Paul in a violent altercation with her then-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen. In a statement released March 19, a Disney Entertainment Television spokesperson confirmed the network would not proceed with the season, adding that their priority is supporting the family involved.

Industry reports indicate the losses could include licensing fees owed to Warner Bros. Unscripted Television, marketing expenses, advertising revenue, and various promotional agreements. With a typical season spanning between nine and 13 episodes, overall production costs may have reached tens of millions, though the exact episode count for Paul’s season remains unknown.

Following the cancellation, ABC removed both Paul and the show from its official platforms. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. TV Group faces uncertainty regarding potential international distribution and recovering financial investments. Questions also remain about how advertising commitments will be handled, as prior franchise installments charged significant rates for commercial spots and included brand partnerships with airlines, hotels, and other companies.

The controversy stems from footage published by TMZ showing an alleged domestic incident involving Paul and Mortensen, which reportedly led to her arrest and misdemeanor charges in 2023. While some charges were later dismissed, Paul entered a plea agreement related to aggravated assault. Both parties have since issued conflicting statements, each denying wrongdoing and emphasizing concern for their child’s well-being.

The situation has also impacted related projects, including a franchise podcast, further complicating the fallout from the cancellation.
