Stefanie Powers became a household name as Jennifer Hart on Hart to Hart, the hit late-’70s show about a wealthy couple who solved mysteries in their spare time. Starring opposite Robert Wagner, Powers won fans with their effortless on-screen chemistry. Now 80, the actress says she’s been living what she calls a surprising “double life” since the beloved series ended.
Powers had already built a strong résumé before Hart to Hart debuted in 1979, and she never stepped away from Hollywood afterward. Over the years, she appeared in popular shows such as The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, The Rockford Files, and more, along with numerous made-for-TV movies — including eight Hart to Hart reunion films. More recently, she joined the cast of the 2021 series On the Verge alongside Julie Delpy, Elisabeth Shue, Sarah Jones, and Alexia Landeau.
In addition to screen work, Powers has remained devoted to the stage, appearing in productions of Oliver, Annie Get Your Gun, Sunset Boulevard, and The Vagina Monologues. She also reunited with Wagner for a touring production of Love Letters, performing the show more than 500 times across the United States.
Outside of acting, Powers splits her time between homes in England and Kenya, where she focuses on wildlife conservation. She founded the William Holden Wildlife Foundation in 1982 in honor of her longtime partner, William Holden. The organization promotes environmental education and animal protection — a passion the couple shared during their years together. Powers has described this balance as living two lives: one in front of the camera and another dedicated to preserving nature.
Despite decades passing since Hart to Hart, Powers remains close with Wagner. She has said their famous chemistry was rooted in a sibling-like bond filled with laughter, adding that they still enjoy spending time together whenever possible — a friendship that has endured long after their television romance ended.
