A celebrated Emmy-winning actress, known for working alongside Hollywood legends like Rock Hudson and Peter Fonda, was recently seen enjoying a rare day out in Los Angeles.
Now 79, the star first stepped into the entertainment world in the mid-1960s, building a career that spanned both film and television. After appearing in several movies, she gained widespread recognition on the small screen, including a major role in a long-running NBC detective series.
Over the years, she earned an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress and received multiple nominations, including a Golden Globe. Her career also brought her alongside notable names such as Robert Wagner and Jessica Lange.
So, who is she?
It’s Susan Saint James—best known for playing Sally McMillan in McMillan & Wife, opposite Rock Hudson from 1971 to 1976.
She kept things simple and elegant during her recent outing, wearing a black dress with colorful floral accents, paired with flats and sunglasses. Her hair fell naturally past her shoulders, and she carried a striped bag as she went about her day.
Born in Los Angeles in August 1946, Saint James began her career as a model, even spending time working in France before returning to California to pursue acting. At just 19, she landed a contract with Universal Pictures, launching her journey in television.
Her breakout came with Fame Is the Name of the Game (1966), which led to a starring role in The Name of the Game (1968–1971), where her performance earned her an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
She later appeared in series like It Takes a Thief and went on to achieve major success in McMillan & Wife. Her role in the show brought her additional Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
After leaving the series, she continued her film career with projects like Outlaw Blues alongside Peter Fonda and Love at First Bite. In the 1980s, she found renewed success on television with the hit sitcom Kate & Allie, co-starring Jane Curtin, earning further Emmy nominations.
In later years, she stepped back from acting, making occasional appearances in shows like Law & Order: SVU, Suits, and most recently Upload (2020–2022).
