The Australian star has been mourning his mother for two years, who passed away in September 2024.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, 58-year-old Nicole Kidman revealed that she is training to become a companion for the terminally ill and elderly. On Saturday, April 11, Kidman spoke at the University of San Francisco as part of a series of educational lectures, where she explained that the idea to train as a caregiver first arose after the death of her mother, Janelle Anne Kidman, at age 84 in September 2024.
When my mother passed away, she felt alone, and her family could only help her partially,” Kidman told the crowd.

The actress has four children, and her younger sister Antonia Kidman has six.
My sister and I have many children, careers, and jobs, and we wanted to take care of her because our father was no longer with us. Then I thought, “I wish there were people in the world who could support me in such a difficult situation.” So I went to school to become a nurse. It’s part of my professional development.
Trained death companions also provide support to people whose loved ones are dying, assisting the sick and their loved ones in their final days.

In March 2025, Nicole paid tribute to her mother on what would have been her 85th birthday.
“I miss my mom so much today; she would have turned 85 today,” she wrote on social media. “She will always be in my heart.”
