According to an interview with The Sun on Sunday, the discovery was made through an emotional phone call involving Kayti Edwards, who claims she shares a daughter, Ever, with Cher’s son Elijah Allman following a brief relationship in 2010. Edwards, who currently lives on a ranch in Joshua Tree, California, said she ultimately decided to confirm the truth directly after Cher reached out with questions.
“Cher got in touch with me last June and asked if it was true, so I had to confess,” she explained. “When she heard the news, she was speechless.”

The 79-year-old singer had allegedly heard rumours about the situation years earlier, including comments reportedly made by Elijah in 2021, but had never been able to confirm whether they were accurate.
“She said she had heard something from Elijah back in 2021, but didn’t know if it was just talk,” Edwards said.
Once the information was verified, the emotional impact became clear. Edwards claims Cher later expressed her surprise and joy at the idea of becoming a grandmother, reportedly saying, “Oh my God, I’m finally a grandma.”
The revelation is especially significant for Cher, who has previously spoken about not having grandchildren and expressing a desire for that role in her life. During a 2018 press tour for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, she admitted openly, “I don’t have any grandchildren. I wish I did, I really do.”

Edwards further shared that her daughter Ever was raised primarily by her husband, whom she describes as the child’s father figure, regardless of biological ties. She said Elijah was aware of the pregnancy from the beginning but did not take on an active parenting role.
While the situation is complex, Edwards explained that Ever has grown up in a stable family environment and considers her stepfather her true dad.

The matter reportedly resurfaced in 2021 during a difficult period in Elijah’s life, when he allegedly mentioned having a child, prompting speculation within the wider family. Cher is said to have later reached out directly for clarification following concerns about her son’s health.
Despite the complicated history, Edwards says Cher has since made efforts to connect. In September, she reportedly invited Edwards and Ever to her Malibu home, where they spent time together in a relaxed setting.
“She was like a kid herself,” Edwards said of the visit. “They played in the pool, and she asked Ever about school and even about boys.”

Cher is also said to have shared personal moments, including showing Ever items from her career and discussing her life in the spotlight, which Edwards described as a memorable experience for her daughter.
Since then, the singer has reportedly continued to reach out with small gestures, including gifts for birthdays and holidays, along with phone calls to stay in touch. Edwards says the relationship is still developing naturally.
“Cher is really trying,” she added. “It’s an adjustment, and I’m not pushing anything. It has to happen in its own time.”
