Jonah Hill reveals why he ditched LA for a ‘very small town’ to raise kids with model wife as he joins Tinseltown exodus

Jonah Hill has become one of the latest stars to speak openly about stepping away from Los Angeles in search of a quieter, family-focused life.

The 42-year-old filmmaker recently shared why he and his wife, Olivia Millar, chose to raise their two children in San Diego rather than remain in Hollywood.

During a live taping of the SmartLess podcast, Hill explained that he wanted to leave Los Angeles and build a family life somewhere outside the city. He revealed that he relocated from his hometown three years ago and now lives in what he described as a “very small town.”

According to Hill, one of the biggest benefits has been the sense of normalcy. He praised his neighbors as kind and genuine, saying they treat him like anyone else rather than focusing on his fame or career. He even mentioned that one of his closest friends is a neighbor who never made a fuss about his celebrity status.

Hill also gave a sweet nod to Millar, who was in the audience, calling her his best friend and warmly acknowledging her from the stage.

Reflecting on his childhood in Los Angeles, Hill said the city was an exciting place to grow up in during the 1990s. He recalled being able to skateboard downtown, sneak into premieres, or catch live comedy shows, all while being immersed in punk culture, graffiti, and the freedom of a pre-internet era.

Earlier this month, Hill also revealed during a conversation with Martin Scorsese that he had quietly married and welcomed a second child. He joked that the only thing that could pull him away from his family now would be the editing room.

Hill and Millar were first linked in September 2022 after being spotted together in Santa Barbara. Their first child was born in June 2023.

The actor joins a growing list of celebrities who have traded Hollywood for a more relaxed lifestyle. Stars such as Nikki Glaser, Luke Grimes, and Josh Duhamel have also spoken about leaving Los Angeles in favor of quieter communities and more grounded family life.
