Goldie Hawn has shared the secret behind her decades-long relationship with Kurt Russell — and why marriage was never something she felt she needed.
Speaking candidly, Goldie explained that freedom has always been one of the foundations of their romance. According to the actress, their bond has thrived on spontaneity, mutual respect, and many joyful years together.
The pair first crossed paths in 1966 while filming The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, but romance did not blossom until 15 years later when they reunited on the set of Swing Shift. Since then, they have created a blended family that includes Goldie’s children Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson, Kurt’s son Boston Russell, and their son Wyatt Russell, born in 1986.
Goldie said maintaining happiness has always been a priority, especially as an example for her children and grandchildren. She believes mindset becomes even more important with age, saying the way people view life and cherish moments can shape their overall well-being.
Their enduring partnership has also been admired by their children. Kate Hudson once described them as the heart of the family, saying their energy and love for life set the tone for everyone around them. She added that despite being very different personalities, Kurt remains deeply devoted to Goldie, something she finds especially sweet to witness.
Neither star has ever felt the need to marry after previous failed marriages — Goldie was wed to Bill Hudson, while Kurt was previously married to Season Hubley. Goldie compared herself to a bird, saying that if the cage door stays open, she has no desire to fly away — but if it were shut, she would fight for her independence.
