Northern Exposure star Janine Turner, 63, was on Dallas, engaged to Alec Baldwin and has a new project, see her now

Texas-born actress Janine Turner has built an impressive career in Hollywood that has spanned decades.

Now 63, Turner first found success in the late 1970s as a fashion model in New York City, landing major campaigns before transitioning into acting. In 1980, she joined the hit television series Dallas, playing a friend of Lucy Ewing, portrayed by Charlene Tilton. She also appeared on the soap opera General Hospital.

Her biggest breakthrough came when she starred as Maggie O’Connell on the beloved drama Northern Exposure, which ran from 1990 to 1995. She later appeared opposite Sylvester Stallone in Cliffhanger and played Katie McCoy on Friday Night Lights.

Turner’s personal life also drew attention over the years. She was romantically linked to Sylvester Stallone, John Corbett, and Mikhail Baryshnikov, and was once engaged to Alec Baldwin.

Speaking recently about her early years, Turner reflected on beginning as a teenage model with Wilhelmina Models in 1978. She also remembered starting her acting journey at 17 on Dallas, where she met Larry Hagman on her first day on set.

After leaving Texas for Hollywood, she landed roles in popular shows such as The Love Boat, Happy Days, The A-Team, Knight Rider, and Quantum Leap. In 1989, she appeared alongside Julia Roberts and Dolly Parton in Steel Magnolias.

Eventually, Turner decided she wanted more serious roles and stepped away from the glamorous image Hollywood often pushed on her. She studied acting intensely, changed her look, and soon landed the role of Maggie on Northern Exposure, which she has described as the highlight of her career.

She revealed that when she got the part, she had only $8 left in her bank account. Today, the series has found a new audience through streaming, with younger fans still recognizing her as Maggie.

After the show ended, Turner returned to Texas, where she raised her daughter on a ranch. She has said that raising her child became her top priority and something she would never change.

She continued acting over the years with appearances in Strong Medicine, Law & Order: SVU, and Friday Night Lights. Her latest film role came in Birthright Outlaw in 2023.

Now Turner is focusing on projects behind the camera. She recently launched The Pursuit, a short-form historical YouTube series created through her foundation, Constituting America. The show honors America’s Founding Fathers and Mothers, with new episodes released weekly through July 4, 2026, marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.

She also has two directing projects in development and is starring in her own musical, Belva, based on trailblazing attorney and activist Belva Lockwood. Turner says the production is about hope and inspiration — and she hopes it may one day reach Broadway, fulfilling one of her lifelong dreams.
