Ex-pageant princess who acted with Mel Brooks and James Van Der Beek steps out with her husband

Mary-Margaret Humes, who first rose to fame as a beauty pageant winner before building a steady television career, was recently seen enjoying a relaxed outing with her husband in Los Angeles.

The 72-year-old actress originally gained attention after being crowned Miss Florida USA in 1975 and placing as third runner-up in the Miss USA pageant the same year. She later transitioned into acting, appearing in a string of popular 1980s television series including The Dukes of Hazzard, The Love Boat, Knight Rider, and others.

Her career reached new heights in the late 1990s when she took on a memorable role in Dawson’s Creek, portraying Gale Leery, the mother of Dawson, played by James Van Der Beek.

Humes was photographed casually dressed in jeans during a walk with her husband of more than three decades, Raul A. Bruce, a former film industry professional who has worked on numerous major Hollywood productions. The couple’s long relationship began after meeting on the set of Mel Brooks’ 1981 film History of the World, Part I, marking the start of both a personal and professional connection to Hollywood.

In recent years, Humes has remained close to her former Dawson’s Creek colleagues and continues to celebrate the show’s legacy. She recently reunited with creator Kevin Williamson at a birthday gathering and has also taken part in charity events tied to the series, including a live reunion reading alongside several of her former co-stars.

The actress has also spoken openly about health awareness and early cancer detection after surviving colon cancer herself in 2007, encouraging others to prioritize regular screenings.

Now enjoying a quieter life away from the spotlight, Mary-Margaret Humes continues to reflect fondly on both her long Hollywood career and the personal milestones that have shaped her journey. Whether reconnecting with former co-stars, supporting charitable causes, or spending time with her husband of more than three decades, she remains a warm and familiar presence to fans who still remember her decades of work on screen.
