Fans of Euphoria were left stunned after Sunday night’s episode sparked backlash over what many viewers called the show’s “most disturbing scene yet” involving Sydney Sweeney’s character, Cassie Howard.
The opening of season three’s fifth episode, titled This Little Piggy, focused heavily on Cassie’s growing career as an OnlyFans creator, with the character producing increasingly provocative fetish-themed content in an effort to expand her subscriber base.

Throughout the episode, Cassie was shown filming a variety of bizarre and explicit requests for paying clients, including ASMR-style recordings, selling used clothing items, and participating in humiliating roleplay scenarios. However, the moment that truly shocked audiences came during a surreal fantasy sequence near the end of the opening scene.
In the sequence, Cassie suddenly transforms into a giant, towering over Los Angeles in a scene many viewers linked to the fetish known as macrophilia — a fascination involving giant women and power dynamics. The sequence culminated with one of Cassie’s subscribers watching her content from a skyscraper before the oversized version of the character appears outside the building.

Social media quickly erupted with criticism, particularly on Reddit, where many viewers argued the scene crossed a line and accused the series of leaning too heavily into fetish content. Some fans questioned why the sequence lasted so long, while others expressed frustration over the increasingly graphic direction of Cassie’s storyline this season.

Several commenters also criticized series creator Sam Levinson, accusing him of focusing excessively on humiliating or exploitative material involving Sweeney’s character. Others defended the actress while suggesting the season had become too centered around Cassie’s controversial content.
Elsewhere in the episode, Cassie’s manager and friend Maddy Perez, played by Alexa Demie, helped film and promote much of the material. The storyline also showed Cassie appearing on podcasts and social media platforms to attract more subscribers and online attention.

Despite the backlash, the controversial scenes immediately became one of the most talked-about moments of the season online, continuing Euphoria’s reputation for pushing boundaries and dividing audiences with its provocative storytelling choices.
The third season of the HBO drama consists of eight episodes, with the finale scheduled to air on May 31.
