As Robert Pattinson marks his 40th birthday on May 13, fans are reflecting on his remarkable evolution from a rising young actor to one of Hollywood’s biggest stars — and now, a devoted father.
For more than two decades, Pattinson has remained firmly in the spotlight, first gaining recognition through fantasy franchises before establishing himself as a respected leading man in both blockbuster films and acclaimed indie projects. Today, he shares his life with actress and singer Suki Waterhouse, and the couple are raising their two-year-old daughter together while keeping her identity private.

Pattinson’s acting breakthrough arrived in 2005 when he portrayed Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Looking back years later, he admitted the role changed everything for him and helped launch his professional acting career.
His fame skyrocketed after landing the role of Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga. Although the vampire franchise divided critics, the films became global box-office sensations, earning billions worldwide. Pattinson starred opposite Kristen Stewart, and the pair’s real-life romance quickly became one of Hollywood’s most talked-about relationships.
The intense public fascination surrounding their relationship eventually became overwhelming. Stewart later explained that the attention made their romance feel less like real life and more like entertainment for the public. Despite their breakup in 2013, the former co-stars have remained friendly over the years.

Following Twilight, Pattinson deliberately moved away from teen-heartthrob roles, choosing darker and more unconventional projects. He openly poked fun at Edward Cullen’s character in past interviews and spent the next phase of his career earning critical praise through independent films such as The Rover and Queen of the Desert. His performances during that era brought him nominations from the Independent Spirit Awards and the Gotham Awards.

In 2014, Pattinson began dating musician FKA Twigs after attending one of her concerts. The pair became engaged, though they kept their relationship largely private amid intense scrutiny from fans and media. Their romance ended in 2017.

Not long afterward, Pattinson found love with Waterhouse. The couple were first linked in 2018 before quietly building a long-term relationship away from the spotlight. By 2020, they were engaged, and in 2022 they made their red carpet debut together at the Dior Fall 2023 Menswear Show in Egypt. Waterhouse later described Pattinson as someone who constantly makes her laugh and said they always have endless conversations together.

The pair welcomed their daughter in March 2024, and Pattinson has since spoken warmly about fatherhood. In a recent interview with GQ, he admitted he never considered himself particularly fond of children before becoming a parent, but now describes fatherhood as “absolutely wonderful.”
Professionally, Pattinson continues to balance prestige projects with major franchises. He recently starred opposite Zendaya in The Drama, while upcoming projects include The Odyssey and Dune: Part Three alongside Timothée Chalamet. He is also set to return as Bruce Wayne in The Batman: Part II in 2027.
