Taylor Swift’s Special Role at Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s Wedding Unveiled

When Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco exchanged vows in Santa Barbara on Sept. 27, her closest friend Taylor Swift wasn’t just a guest—she played a heartfelt part in the celebration.

The “Life of a Showgirl” singer stood by Selena’s side, delivering a touching speech alongside Ed Sheeran to honor the newlyweds, according to multiple reports.

The wedding was filled with famous faces, including Only Murders in the Building stars Martin Short, Steve Martin, Paul Rudd, and Ashley Park. But for Selena, having Taylor there meant more than star power—it symbolized 16 years of unwavering friendship.

The two first bonded as teenagers in the late 2000s, when Selena was dating Nick Jonas and Taylor was with Joe Jonas. Selena has often said that the best thing to come out of those early romances was their lasting connection.

“We were so young, and it was sweet,” Selena shared during an August 6 appearance on Therapuss. “We bonded over breakups, as girls do, and stayed by each other’s side through everything since. Sixteen years later, we’re still here.”

That friendship has endured heartbreaks, triumphs, and milestones—from Selena’s marriage to Benny, to Taylor’s engagement to Travis Kelce. Selena even gushed online when Taylor got engaged, writing on Instagram: “When bestie gets engaged.”

Taylor once summed up their bond in a 2020 WSJ. Magazine interview: “From the moment I met her, I knew I’d always have her back. I can forgive people who’ve hurt me, but I don’t think I could ever forgive someone who hurt her.”
