Amy Schumer Finally Reveals the Truth Behind Her Dramatic Weight Loss After Being Mocked for Her “Moon Face”

The internet can be merciless — especially toward celebrities whose appearance changes — and Amy Schumer has felt that cruelty firsthand.

After months of online ridicule, the 44-year-old comedian is opening up at last. And the real story behind her sudden weight loss has nothing to do with beauty… and everything to do with survival.

Schumer recently spoke candidly about a frightening medical ordeal — one that countless women face when their symptoms are ignored, minimized, or brushed aside.

In a video shared on Instagram on Dec. 1, she explained how her health struggles led to the unexpected transformation:

“I want women to love themselves and to fight fiercely for their health — especially in a system that often refuses to listen.”

The hidden illness

Following steroid injections she received to ease pain and scarring from her C-section and breast reduction, Schumer unknowingly developed Cushing’s syndrome — a rare and dangerous condition caused by prolonged high cortisol levels.

The disorder can lead to intense facial swelling, sudden weight gain concentrated in the face and neck, thinning limbs, and easy bruising — and in severe cases, it can be life-threatening.

Shockingly, Schumer says she only realized something was wrong because of the harsh comments about her appearance:

“I got these steroid injections, and they gave me something called Cushing’s syndrome — which I wouldn’t have known about if the internet hadn’t attacked me so viciously.”

A 50-pound drop she never wanted

While earlier reports claimed she’d shed around 30 pounds, Schumer clarified the real number is closer to 50 — and the weight loss was entirely unintentional.

She emphasized that she didn’t slim down “to look hot,” adding:
“I did it to survive.”

The comedian says her condition has since improved:
“I had a disease that made my face extremely swollen and could have killed me — but the internet noticed it, and now it’s gone.”

Schumer also mentioned she uses Mounjaro and has undergone plastic surgery in the past, but clarified she does not use fillers or Botox.

Addressing the marriage rumors

Schumer took the opportunity to address speculation surrounding her marriage to chef Chris Fischer, whom she wed in 2018. The pair share a 6-year-old son.

Rumors have circulated that Fischer’s autism diagnosis contributed to tension or that their marriage was falling apart — but Schumer shut that down firmly:

“Whatever happens with Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism.”

A source previously told People that the couple is simply dealing with normal long-term relationship challenges and remain committed to each other.

Despite everything, Schumer ended with optimism:
“Fingers crossed we make it through — he’s the best.”
