Kirstie Louise Alley was born on January 12, 1951, in Wichita, Kansas. Before becoming a globally recognized actress and comedian, she initially pursued a very different path, working as an interior designer after moving to California. That move marked a turning point in her life, bringing both opportunity and struggle. During those years, Alley battled substance addiction, a challenge she ultimately overcame just before her acting career took off.

Raised in Wichita, Alley grew up in a modest household. Her father ran a lumber business, and she was raised alongside her siblings, Colette and Craig. She later enrolled at Kansas State University but left after two years, feeling unfulfilled. Seeking a fresh start, she relocated to Los Angeles, where she continued pursuing interior design while exploring other opportunities.
While living in California, Alley appeared on popular game shows like Match Game and Password Plus, winning several cash prizes. Around this time, she experienced a devastating personal loss when her mother was killed and her father seriously injured in an accident caused by a drunk driver.

Her acting breakthrough came in 1982 with Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, but it was her role as Rebecca Howe on Cheers that made her a household name. Taking over after Shelley Long’s departure, Alley earned both an Emmy and a Golden Globe in 1991. She later starred in Veronica’s Closet, the Look Who’s Talking film series, and earned additional acclaim for David’s Mother, winning another Emmy.

Over the years, Alley appeared in numerous films and TV series, including Fat Actress, North and South, Village of the Damned, and It Takes Two. She also embraced reality television, competing on Dancing with the Stars and later appearing as “Baby Mammoth” on The Masked Singer.
In her personal life, Alley was married twice. Her first marriage was to high school sweetheart Bob Alley, followed by a 14-year marriage to actor Parker Stevenson, with whom she adopted two children, Lillie and William. She never remarried after their divorce.

In December 2022, Kirstie Alley passed away after a brief, private battle with colon cancer. Her children announced her death on Instagram, honoring her strength, passion for life, creativity, and deep love for family—a legacy that continues to inspire fans around the world.
