Thanks to her role as Rachel Green in the cult hit “Friends,” Jennifer Aniston became a true fashion icon. It’s all the more surprising that the actress has never attended the world’s premier fashion event, the Met Gala. How did this happen? We explain.

The Met Gala Costume Institute Gala is a truly spectacular event. On the first Monday in May, the fashion press is consumed by only one topic: the outfits of the stars invited by Anna Wintour, the longtime host of the gala.
But Jennifer Aniston, who could easily be called a fashion icon, was never on this guest list. Why? This is a question fans have been wondering for decades. It turns out it’s not a secret feud with Wintour. Jen is simply terrified of the thought of wearing a bulky dress (and in an attempt to “hit” each year’s fashion theme, celebrities, of course, have to resort to ingenuity, sometimes wearing uncomfortable and restrictive outfits).
“I’m not a high-fashion girl. I prefer jeans, flip-flops, and a T-shirt—and frankly, it all kind of confuses me,” Jennifer Aniston admitted in an interview with Glamour.

“I like to dress up sometimes, but sometimes it’s too tiring for me… Putting on a fancy dress, doing makeup, hair, and sitting in a big room with people… Yes, everyone gathers to congratulate each other and have fun, but I just get nervous,” the actress continued.
Well, I can understand Jen’s sentiments. Sure, many stars dream of shining on the Met Gala red carpet, but for many, the appearance ends in embarrassment. Sensationalist journalists are just waiting for the next celebrity to make a mistake—arriving in an awkward dress, tripping on the stairs, or tearing their outfit.
Jen added that it’s not just the Met Gala that terrifies her; she gets nervous before every public appearance.

“I do get a little nervous about public speaking, especially because my words are sometimes twisted and taken out of context,” Aniston says. “Some people take real pleasure in building you up and then tearing you down.”
Well, in that case, staying home or meeting up with longtime friend Cotney Cox is actually a better idea than the Met Gala!
By the way, an interesting fact: Jennifer’s ex, Brad Pitt, has never been to the Met Gala either.
