Mariah Carey interrupts son’s livestream like an embarrassing mom… and fans can’t get enough of his reaction

Mariah Carey may be a global superstar with an estimated fortune of around $350 million, but at home she’s simply “mom” — and sometimes that means unintentionally embarrassing her kids.

The 56-year-old singer behind the hit We Belong Together recently created a funny moment when she walked into her 14-year-old son’s room while he was livestreaming on the gaming platform Twitch on Friday.

Her son, Moroccan Scott Cannon — often called Rocky — was chatting with viewers and friends during the stream when his famous mother unexpectedly appeared in the background. Instead of panicking, the teenager invited her to greet the audience.

“My mom’s here, do you want to say hi?” Rocky asked, prompting Carey to respond from across the dimly lit room that she would love to greet everyone watching.

However, he quickly double-checked with her before letting her step into view. “Wait, wait, are you sure?” he asked, reminding her that he was live in front of a large audience.

Carey jokingly asked if she should be worried as she approached the camera. She soon appeared beside her son wearing what looked like a bathrobe, her signature long hair styled in soft waves.

Leaning over Rocky’s shoulder, the pop icon sweetly addressed his viewers, telling them she wanted them to know that she loved them.

Rocky laughed off the moment but soon tried to wrap things up politely, telling his mother it was very kind of her before explaining he needed to continue streaming. “I love you, Mama. Have a good night,” he said as the chat quickly filled with excited messages from fans greeting the singer.

The funny interruption quickly caught the attention of viewers online, many of whom were delighted by Rocky’s slightly embarrassed reaction.

It also wasn’t the first time Carey had accidentally interrupted her son’s livestream. Back in April 2025, she walked into the room during another stream, but the situation became even more chaotic when Rocky’s twin sister Monroe Cannon — affectionately nicknamed Roe — started wandering around the room.

At first Rocky welcomed his mom, but he soon grew flustered as both she and his sister remained on camera. Clearly overwhelmed, he jokingly urged them to leave the room while waving them away.

Carey, however, continued greeting his friends on the stream, cheerfully saying hello and telling them she loved them. Rocky repeatedly asked his family to step out, eventually pleading for them to leave so he could continue his broadcast.

Rocky and Monroe are Carey’s children with her former husband Nick Cannon, who is also a father to several other children from different relationships.

Carey’s latest playful cameo on her son’s livestream comes as she prepares to celebrate the upcoming 25th anniversary of her 2001 film Glitter and its accompanying soundtrack album Glitter.

Speaking in a recent interview, the music icon revealed that plans are underway for a possible deluxe edition or reissue of the project to mark the milestone.

Although the film was widely criticized when it first premiered and struggled at the box office, Carey admitted she has grown to appreciate the project more over time.

She once felt disappointed by the film’s reception and said she used to dislike it because of how poorly it performed. But as the years passed, she developed a new affection for the album and the era surrounding it.

In fact, the soundtrack has since gained a loyal fan following, with supporters launching the viral #JusticeForGlitter campaign in 2018 that pushed the album to the top of the Apple iTunes charts.

Looking ahead, Carey has also suggested remastering some of her older music videos — including the one for Don’t Stop (Funkin’ 4 Jamaica) — as part of the anniversary celebration.
