Actor Nick Nolte, now 83, looked dramatically different from the polished heartthrob image he carried during the 1990s when he was recently seen out in Malibu. With tousled hair and a noticeably wrinkled outfit, the Oscar-nominated star showed off a far more laid-back appearance than fans might remember.
Best known for films such as 48 Hrs. and Tropic Thunder, Nolte remains active in Hollywood despite largely stepping away from public life. His latest outing, the first time he has been photographed this year, took place on June 7, when he was spotted stepping out of his Lincoln while running errands.

For the casual trip, Nolte wore a creased purple button-down shirt paired with white trousers. He appeared to be in a hurry, leaving his home with his hair uncombed and a no-frills demeanor.
Although he has kept a low profile in recent years, Nolte continues to secure film roles. The veteran actor is set to appear in The Ploughmen, alongside Bill Murray and Owen Teague. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film centers on an unusual bond between a troubled young deputy sheriff and an infamous elderly murderer—a role Nolte will portray as John Gload. A release date has not yet been announced.
He has also signed on for a role in Rittenhouse Square, where he plays a character named Barry. That film is expected to arrive in theaters later this year, with an October release planned.

A troubled chapter revisited
Nolte’s disheveled appearance has long been part of his public image. In 2002, he made headlines after being arrested for driving under the influence of GHB. He later addressed the incident in his 2018 memoir, Rebel: My Life Outside the Lines.
“The only way to deal with your biggest mistakes is to talk about them—openly, even with God,” he wrote.
Nolte explained that he had taken the substance, short for gamma-hydroxybutyrate, while heading to the gym and an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. By the time he arrived, the drug had taken effect, prompting him to leave.
“I was a wreck, driving along the Pacific Coast Highway,” he recalled. “Apparently, six drivers called 911 to report a large car swerving into oncoming traffic.”
His mugshot, featuring wild hair and a dazed expression, quickly went viral.
“In 1992, People named me the Sexiest Man Alive,” he reflected. “Ten years later, I looked like a madman who’d escaped an institution.”
“I was exhausted,” he concluded.

A quieter life today
These days, Nolte prefers a private existence, spending most of his time with his fourth wife, Clytie Lane. The couple married in 2016 after years together and welcomed their daughter, Sophia Lane Nolte, in 2007.
Previously, Nolte was married to Rebecca Linger from 1984 to 1994, with whom he shares a son, Brawley. He was also married to Sharyn Haddad and actress Sheila Page.
Both of Nolte’s children have followed him into the acting world, continuing the family’s Hollywood legacy.
