Erin Murphy became a household name as Tabitha on the classic sitcom Bewitched, portraying the magical daughter of Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) and Darrin Stephens (Dick York, later Dick Sargent). Murphy joined the show at just two years old, initially sharing the role with her twin sister Diane, and continued until the series wrapped in 1972 when she was eight. Today, at 58, she has explored a variety of paths in and beyond entertainment.
Murphy’s early start in Hollywood was shared with her fraternal twin, but after 18 episodes, she continued as the sole Tabitha because the sisters didn’t closely resemble each other. While Erin thrived on set, Diane preferred to avoid the spotlight, often becoming upset during filming.
After Bewitched ended, Murphy took a break from acting, appearing briefly in the 1973 Lassie episode and the 1979 film Deadly Fighters. She later returned in the 2010s with roles in The Comeback Kids and Youthful Daze, while also performing in theater, web series, and pilots, often as favors for friends.
Beyond acting, Murphy has remained active in the industry, appearing on reality and game shows such as Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling, RuPaul’s Drag U, and the 2021 revival of To Tell the Truth. She has also worked behind the scenes as a makeup artist, production assistant, and stunt double, while co-owning Slim Chillers, a company that produces alcoholic popsicles, and selling hand-knit alpaca wool items.
Murphy has built a large family, being married three times and raising six children, including a son with autism, which inspired her advocacy work. She values the lessons from her childhood acting experience and embraces the opportunities it brought her, from traveling the world to connecting with legends like Carol Burnett.
Reflecting on her past as a child star, Murphy says she remains “eternally optimistic” and grateful for the experiences Bewitched afforded her. She has also expressed openness to a potential reboot of the series if the project is well-executed, though she has not confirmed whether she would participate as an actor.
