A beloved TV star from the 1980s and former model made a rare public appearance in Los Angeles this week at the age of 70. who is she?

The actress first gained fame in the early ’80s with a breakout role on a popular NBC action-adventure series, where she portrayed a tenacious journalist. Despite her promising start, she was unexpectedly written out of the show before completing two seasons, amid reported creative disagreements and behind-the-scenes tension with one of her co-stars.

Following that, the Illinois-born actress continued to make her mark on television, taking on roles in iconic series such as The X-Files, Family Ties, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Fantasy Island.

The mystery star is Melinda Culea, best known for playing Amy Amanda “Triple A” Adams on NBC’s The A-Team. Culea was spotted Sunday afternoon in LA, taking a phone call while out and about. She wore a casual-yet-stylish ensemble, consisting of black skinny pants, a black T-shirt, and a yellow quilted hoodie layered under a matching knit scarf. Her look was finished with black sneakers, sunglasses, and AirPods, and she showcased a modern grey pixie cut in place of her signature brunette locks.

The A-Team followed four Vietnam veterans falsely accused of a crime, helping the innocent while evading the military. Culea joined the series in the first season as Amy, a newspaper reporter, and quickly became a valued member of the team—although her character was written out in season two. At the time, she described her role as a “surrogate member” of the group, balancing her journalist duties with the action-packed work of the team. She had expressed hope that her character would play a larger part in the show’s future, citing humility and patience as lessons learned during her time on set. Producer Stephen J. Cannell later noted that her departure stemmed from misunderstandings over the role’s scope and direction.

After leaving The A-Team, Culea went on to appear in numerous other TV series, including Glitter, Knots Landing, and Brotherly Love, as well as guest roles on shows like Murder, She Wrote, Beverly Hills, 90210, and St. Elsewhere. She also appeared in films such as Through the Eyes of a Killer and Wagons East, with her final acting credit in the 2001 movie Dying on the Edge.

Outside of acting, Culea has pursued other creative endeavors. She showcases her artwork on Instagram and, in 2016, released an illustrated mystery novel titled Wondago through Griffith Moon Publishing.

Culea has been married to director Peter Markle since 1996; Markle is known for directing episodes of shows like The X-Files and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Before her acting career, Culea had worked as a professional model, setting the stage for her later success in Hollywood.

Even in her rare public appearances today, Melinda Culea remains a graceful presence, bridging her status as an 80s TV icon with her life as a multifaceted creative in her 70s.
