Sandra Bernhard appeared to throw some serious side-eye at Actor Awards host Kristen Bell on the red carpet — and now body language expert Judi James has weighed in on what may have been behind the awkward exchange.
Bell, 45, was presiding over the ceremony for the third time, having previously hosted the event — formerly known as the SAG Awards — in 2018 and again last year. Bernhard, 70, attended the show in support of Marty Supreme, which was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Bell turned heads in a sheer gown that left little to the imagination, styled without a bra and paired with minimal nude undergarments designed to create a barely-there effect. As she animatedly chatted with fellow guests, cameras captured Bernhard standing a short distance away, casting what appeared to be a frosty sideways glance in footage later shared by DeuxMoi.
Analyzing the clip, James described the red carpet atmosphere as one filled with fixed smiles and performative glamour — but said Bernhard’s expression stood out as a rare moment of unfiltered reaction.
According to James, Bell was in full red-carpet mode, striking bold poses, resting her hand on a companion’s shoulder, and making sure her sizable diamond ring caught the light for photographers positioned nearby. She also appeared to adjust her lips and neckline in a series of self-styling gestures, projecting what the expert described as peak confidence.

Bernhard, however, seemed less impressed. James noted that her prolonged sideways glance traveled up and down Bell’s figure in what read as visible disapproval. In contrast to Bell’s high-glam posing, Bernhard maintained a more understated stance, standing with relaxed posture and her hands loosely clasped in front of her.
Despite the viral moment, there’s no public history of tension between the two performers. Bernhard and Bell have never worked together onscreen and have not been linked to any prior disagreements.
