The actor, 53, and the Black Eyed Peas frontwoman — born Stacy Ferguson — were married from 2009 until announcing their split in 2017. Their divorce was finalized two years later. Speaking on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast with hosts Lauryn and Michael Bosstick, Duhamel explained that their differences gradually became more apparent over time.

“We’re just very different,” he said, noting that they hold contrasting perspectives on life. “She and I just have different views of the world, and that’s OK.” Despite the breakup, he emphasized that they share a “beautiful son,” 12-year-old Axl. Duhamel is also father to two-year-old Shepherd, whom he shares with his current wife, Audra Mari.
The Ransom Canyon star spoke warmly about both women, describing them as “really, really great” in their own ways. He added that Fergie is a devoted mother, kind-hearted, and easygoing — especially since stepping back from the spotlight. According to Duhamel, co-parenting has been smooth, and Fergie and Audra maintain a positive relationship as well.

In a previous interview on In Depth With Graham Bensinger, Duhamel similarly reflected that he and his ex-wife had simply grown apart and developed different interests. He stressed there was no major wrongdoing behind the split and that they remain on good terms while raising their son together.

The actor has also been candid about feeling out of place in Hollywood. A native of Minot, North Dakota, he admitted he never fully embraced the red carpet lifestyle and longed for a quieter, more grounded way of living. He said the entertainment industry can be overwhelming and that he missed the simplicity of his roots.

Owning a lakeside cabin in the Midwest has helped him reconnect with that side of himself. He shared that being surrounded by nature allows him to feel more at home and aligned with who he truly is. Praising Audra, he noted that they both value family, outdoor living, and their North Dakota upbringing — a lifestyle that ultimately suits him far better than the glitz of Los Angeles.
