On Tuesday, Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced that 35-year-old Ivanna Lisette Ortiz had been hit with 14 charges: one count of attempted murder, ten counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and three counts of shooting into an inhabited dwelling or camper. Hochman noted that if convicted, Ortiz could face life in state prison.

While earlier reports suggested that rapper Rocky (real name Rakim Mayers) was not home at the time, the DA confirmed that both Rihanna, 38, and Rocky, 37, were inside an airstream trailer on her property when the alleged shooting occurred. According to Hochman, the three counts of shooting into an inhabited dwelling apply because Rihanna’s property includes multiple dwellings, and Ortiz allegedly also fired at a neighbor’s home. The ten counts of assault correspond to each person reportedly in the line of fire, which included Rihanna, Rocky, their three children — RZA, three; Riot, two; and Rocki, five months — Rihanna’s mother, and two staff members. Two people were also present in the neighboring residence that was targeted.

No injuries were reported, but a law enforcement official told the Los Angeles Times that Rihanna and Rocky “easily could have been hit.” Ortiz appeared in court on Tuesday but did not enter a plea. Her arraignment has been continued until March 26. Judge Theresa McGonigle set bail at $1,875,000 and ordered Ortiz to stay away from Rihanna and Rocky, surrender all firearms, and comply with a protective order.
At her first court appearance, Ortiz — wearing a blue jumpsuit — was represented by LA County Public Defender Jamarcus Bradford. Authorities say she allegedly used an AR-15–style rifle from her white Tesla to fire at Rihanna’s property and the nearby home. TMZ reported that Ortiz waived her right to a speedy trial.
Hochman emphasized the seriousness of the case during a press conference, stating, “I want everyone in this county to understand that you should absolutely feel safe in your residence, in your neighborhood and in your community. When someone comes into our community and decides to shoot it up, that person will be arrested and held fully accountable for their actions.”

According to the DA, Ortiz fled to Beverly Hills after the shooting before being apprehended 30 minutes later in the Sherman Oaks Galleria parking lot. LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said the motive for the shooting remains unclear, and the investigation by the LAPD Robbery–Homicide Division is ongoing.
Court documents reveal that Ortiz has a history of legal and personal challenges. She was previously involuntarily committed to a psychiatric facility in Florida and lost full custody of her child to her ex-husband, Jed Nikko Valdez, in April 2024. She was barred from contacting her child in any form but filed an appeal in December 2025 to overturn the custody decision.

Ortiz, who presents herself online as a Christian influencer, has reportedly posted hostile messages aimed at Rihanna, including claims that the singer had spoken negatively about her and videos containing disturbing threats. She also has past arrests for domestic violence, careless driving, and violating pretrial release conditions in Florida.
While Ortiz faced court proceedings, Rihanna was seen leaving Los Angeles the day before on a private jet.
