Now 95 years old, the legendary actress was recently spotted during a rare public outing — and she still looks remarkable.
The performer, widely recognized for her role in Psycho, appeared lively as she stepped out in Palm Springs earlier this week. Dressed in a relaxed plaid shirt, tan pants and a worn bucket hat, she looked far removed from the glamorous image she projected during her film career, yet her charm and energy were still evident.

At the peak of her fame, she starred alongside John Wayne in The Searchers (1956), the iconic Western directed by John Ford. Around the same time, Hitchcock signed her to a personal contract and cast her opposite Henry Fonda in the 1956 thriller The Wrong Man.
Their professional partnership eventually ran into difficulties when she became pregnant, forcing her to withdraw from the lead role in Vertigo, which was ultimately played by Kim Novak.
Despite the setback, she later secured a memorable role in Hitchcock’s landmark thriller Psycho, portraying Lila Crane — the determined sister of murder victim Marion Crane, played by Janet Leigh — opposite Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates.
The enduring Hollywood figure in question is Vera Miles.

Born Vera June Ralston on August 23, 1930, in Boise City, Oklahoma, she spent much of her childhood in Pratt, Kansas, before moving to California to pursue acting. Early in the 1950s she began landing small roles in film and television, quickly drawing attention thanks to her classic blonde beauty and composed screen presence.
Miles went on to appear in numerous Westerns, crime stories and adventure films, including The Searchers, The Wrong Man and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. On television, she made recurring appearances in well-known series such as Gunsmoke, Route 66 and Alfred Hitchcock Presents, proving her versatility across multiple genres.
Throughout her career she worked alongside major Hollywood stars including Wayne, Fonda and Lee Marvin, and collaborated with celebrated directors like Ford, Hitchcock and William Wyler.

Although missing out on Vertigo marked a turning point in her relationship with Hitchcock, Miles continued building a steady career. Her role in Psycho ultimately cemented her legacy as one of the most memorable actresses of classic suspense cinema.
She remained active through the 1960s and 1970s, appearing in films such as The Sons of Katie Elder and The Missouri Breaks, as well as numerous television projects and TV movies.
Away from the spotlight, Miles also built a full personal life. She married Bob Miles in 1949 and adopted his surname professionally; the couple had two children before divorcing. She later married actor Gordon Scott, famous for portraying Tarzan, and had two more children.
Today, Miles is a mother of four and a grandmother who enjoys a quieter life away from the bright lights of Hollywood.
