Top Gun actor, 64, was in the horror film Christine, wrote a movie for Jennifer Aniston and dated Bianca Jagger, who is he?

The Hollywood star in question is John Stockwell, a longtime actor who has maintained a steady career in the entertainment industry since the early 1980s.

Before making a name for himself in film, Stockwell worked as a model for the fashion house Giorgio Armani and spent time in the vibrant New York art scene, where he even crossed paths with legendary pop artist Andy Warhol. His first major movie role arrived in 1981 with the comedy So Fine.

One of his earliest notable performances came in the 1983 teen comedy Losin’ It, where he played the character Spider alongside Tom Cruise. That same year, he appeared in the horror film Christine, directed by John Carpenter and based on a story about a deadly 1958 Plymouth Fury with a mind of its own.

Throughout the mid-1980s, Stockwell continued landing roles in projects such as My Science Project and City Limits, and also appeared in the television miniseries North and South.

His biggest breakthrough came in 1986 when he reunited with Tom Cruise in the blockbuster Top Gun. In the film, Stockwell portrayed Lieutenant Bill “Cougar” Cortell, a skilled Navy pilot and Maverick’s first wingman. His character leaves the Navy after a terrifying aerial encounter with a MiG-28 that nearly costs him his life, a moment that becomes one of the film’s memorable emotional scenes.

Now 64, the actor was recently spotted out and about in Malibu. During the casual outing, he wore a beige short-sleeved T-shirt with blue trousers and black slip-on sneakers while leaving a local Starbucks café, carrying a white binder, laptop, and cellphone.

Following his Top Gun success, Stockwell appeared in the 1987 drama Billionaire Boys Club alongside Judd Nelson and Ron Silver. He also made television appearances in shows like The Young Riders and Friday the 13th: The Series.

Over time, Stockwell transitioned behind the camera and built a successful career as a director. Among the films he helmed are Cheaters (2000) and Crazy/Beautiful (2001). He also wrote the screenplay for the 2001 film Rock Star, which starred Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston in a rags-to-riches story about a rock musician.

Stockwell later directed several other films, including the surfing drama Blue Crush (2002) starring Kate Bosworth and the underwater adventure Into the Blue (2005) featuring Jessica Alba. His directing credits also include Turistas, In the Blood and the reboot Kickboxer: Vengeance.

The most recent film he directed was Armed Response (2017), starring Wesley Snipes and Anne Heche.

In his personal life, Stockwell was briefly linked in the 1980s to socialite Bianca Jagger, the former wife of Mick Jagger. He also dated model Barbara Allen de Kwiatkowski, who passed away in 2020.

Today, he is married to chef Helene Henderson, and together they share three children.
