Matilda Ledger, the striking daughter of the late Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams, was seen out and about in New York City last week, marking nearly 17 years since her father posthumously won an Oscar.
The 20-year-old kept her outing low-key, donning light blue jeans, a simple black hoodie, black flats, and carrying a black tote bag while grabbing an iced coffee. Born in October 2005, just a year after Ledger and Williams began dating following their meeting on the set of Brokeback Mountain, Matilda bears a remarkable resemblance to her late father.

Ledger received the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his iconic role as the Joker in The Dark Knight at the 81st Academy Awards in 2009, over a year after his tragic death at age 28 from an accidental overdose. His family accepted the award on stage, with moving tributes from his father, mother, and sister, who praised his talent, dedication, and the impact of his work.

Nearly two years after Matilda’s birth, Ledger and Williams parted ways. Reflecting on their time together during an interview with Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast in 2025, Williams described the late actor as profoundly special and recalled their early days raising Matilda in Brooklyn as an intimate, blissful period without outside help.

Williams also praised Ledger’s limitless talent, recalling his skills in sports, directing, painting, photography, and building—qualities that impressed friends and colleagues alike. Co-star Julia Stiles, who worked with Ledger on 10 Things I Hate About You, described him as “a bright light” whose kindness and generosity helped make her first major film role comfortable and memorable.

Even as the years pass, Ledger’s legacy continues through his performances and in the life of his daughter, Matilda, who carries forward the memory of her father in both appearance and spirit.
