Sarah Michelle Gellar’s enviable transformation over the years – as she celebrates her 49th birthday

From the very beginning, Gellar stood out with her charm and versatility. After early appearances in commercials and roles like the young Jacqueline Bouvier in A Woman Named Jackie, she gained recognition on the soap Swan’s Crossing in the early 1990s, marking the start of a career that would only continue to grow.

Her defining moment came in 1997 when she took on the role of Buffy Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a character that became iconic in pop culture. That same year, she also starred in hit horror films I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream 2, cementing her status as a leading figure in teen and genre entertainment.

In the early 2000s, she expanded her reach with roles in projects like Scooby-Doo, where she portrayed Daphne alongside her future husband Freddie Prinze Jr., whom she first met on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer. The pair would go on to build a family together, becoming one of Hollywood’s most enduring couples.

As her career progressed, Gellar continued to explore a wide range of roles. In 2007, she appeared in films like The Air I Breathe and lent her voice to TMNT. Later, she took on more complex television work with Ringer (2011–2012), where she played dual roles in a suspense-driven storyline.

Throughout the 2010s, she remained active across different platforms, from guest appearances to voice acting in Star Wars: Rebels, and even viral projects that introduced her to a new generation of fans. In 2022, she returned to the high school setting with the dark comedy Do Revenge, showcasing her ability to adapt to modern storytelling while maintaining her signature screen presence.

Most recently, she has stepped back into the horror genre with Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (2026), starring alongside actors like Samara Weaving, Kathryn Newton, and Elijah Wood.

Across more than three decades in the spotlight, Gellar has managed to evolve with the times while holding onto the qualities that first made her a star—her warmth, wit, and unmistakable presence. Whether revisiting her early roles or embracing new challenges, her journey reflects a rare balance of nostalgia and reinvention, proving that her appeal remains just as strong today as it was at the start of her career.
