Queen guitarist Brian May has revealed the surprisingly simple habit he believes helps him maintain his youthful appearance at 78.
The legendary musician, who rose to fame alongside Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor, shared that one of his favorite wellness routines is ending a hot shower with a blast of very cold water. Brian joked that the practice may even be responsible for helping him keep his famous head of curls.

Speaking at the launch event for the remastered Queen II album in London, he explained that he enjoys starting with a warm shower before switching to icy cold water. According to Brian, the routine helps boost the immune system and supports overall wellbeing.
Despite decades of late nights, touring, and life in the public eye, Brian has continued to prioritize healthy habits while staying active with Queen’s ongoing performances alongside Roger Taylor.

His comments came shortly after he also reflected on the band’s creative history, including memories of working with Freddie Mercury. Brian recalled jokingly challenging one lyric in Don’t Stop Me Now, telling Freddie that no one could travel at the speed of light. Freddie’s playful response, Brian said, showed that the song was always meant to be about fun and joy.
Now nearing his 79th birthday, Brian May continues to prove that energy, humor, and a few cold showers may be the secret to staying timeless.
Now, as he approaches 79, Brian May continues to balance music, science, and an active lifestyle with the same curiosity and passion that defined his career. Whether it’s on stage with Queen or in everyday routines, he shows no signs of slowing down—proving that staying youthful might be less about time, and more about mindset, discipline, and a touch of rock-and-roll resilience.
