Hollywood veteran JoBeth Williams is proving that classic screen charm never fades, as she stepped out in Beverly Hills for a rare public outing at 76—looking effortlessly stylish and radiant decades after becoming a household name in the 1980s.
The actress, best known for her unforgettable role as Diane Freeling in the 1982 supernatural hit Poltergeist, kept things casual yet chic during her daytime appearance. Williams opted for a relaxed all-black ensemble, pairing a button-up shirt with comfortable pants, sneakers, and oversized sunglasses, completing the look with a designer handbag and softly styled hair.

Williams became one of the defining faces of 1980s cinema after her breakout performance in Poltergeist, a film that remains one of the most iconic horror classics of its era. Her portrayal of the protective suburban mother caught in a terrifying supernatural nightmare helped cement her status as both a “final girl” archetype and a memorable screen presence of the decade.
Her Hollywood journey, however, began long before that breakout role. After studying at Brown University and training in theater, Williams built her early career with appearances on television series and smaller film roles. Her talent soon led her to share the screen with some of the industry’s biggest names, including Dustin Hoffman, Meryl Streep, Gene Wilder, and Richard Pryor.

Her performance in Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) brought her wider recognition, before she solidified her place in pop culture with Poltergeist in 1982, directed by Tobe Hooper and co-created by Steven Spielberg. The film became a massive box-office success and earned multiple Academy Award nominations.
Williams later reprised her role in Poltergeist II: The Other Side and continued a steady career throughout the 1980s and beyond, appearing in films like The Big Chill, Teachers, and Wyatt Earp. She also earned Emmy nominations for her work in television projects including Adam and Baby M.

In later years, she transitioned seamlessly into television, with guest appearances on hit series such as Frasier, Law & Order: SVU, Criminal Minds, and NCIS, maintaining a consistent presence on screen well into the 2000s and 2010s.
Beyond acting, Williams also explored directing, earning an Oscar nomination for her short film On Hope. Off-screen, she has been married since 1982 to director John Pasquin, with whom she shares two children.
Even decades after her breakout role, JoBeth Williams continues to embody the grace and longevity of a true Hollywood classic—proving that some stars don’t just shine, they endure.
