Kathy Ireland, Rachel Hunter and Elle Macpherson still sizzle 30 years after iconic Sports Illustrated cover

By 1994, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue had become more than a magazine—it was a pop culture phenomenon. That year, it delivered one of its most memorable covers featuring supermodel power trio Kathy Ireland, Rachel Hunter, and Elle Macpherson.

Wearing matching black bikinis, the three stars were dubbed the “Dream Team” and represented the height of 1990s glamour.

Ireland, now 63, was already a Sports Illustrated favorite by then, having landed the coveted cover three times. Hunter, now 56, also enjoyed major success with two covers and eight appearances throughout the magazine’s golden era. Macpherson, now 62, became the undisputed queen of the franchise with five covers—including a three-year streak in the late 1980s.

But life after their iconic photo shoot took each woman in a very different direction.

Ireland transformed herself far beyond modeling, becoming an actress, author, designer, philanthropist, and major entrepreneur. She founded Kathy Ireland Worldwide in 1993, building a retail empire that made her one of the richest former models in the world. Her company expanded into home goods, fashion, and lifestyle products, generating billions in sales. These days, she also enjoys a quieter life with husband Greg Olsen, with whom she shares three children.

Hunter’s path remained highly public. Discovered at just 16, she later married rock legend Rod Stewart at age 21 after a whirlwind romance. The couple had two children before separating in 2006. In recent years, Hunter has embraced a more spiritual lifestyle, often sharing reflective messages online and traveling frequently to India.

Macpherson, famously nicknamed “The Body,” still holds the record for the most Sports Illustrated Swimsuit covers. She expanded her career into acting with films like Batman & Robin and The Edge, while also appearing on Friends and hosting Saturday Night Live.

Today, the Australian icon has shifted her focus to wellness and entrepreneurship through her supplements brand WelleCo, where she promotes a health-centered lifestyle and personal empowerment.

Three decades after that unforgettable cover, Kathy Ireland, Rachel Hunter, and Elle Macpherson remain symbols of timeless beauty—each redefining success in her own way.
