Dylan Carter, a rising country singer and former contestant on The Voice, has died at the age of 24 following a single-vehicle crash in rural South Carolina.
According to local reports, the accident happened Saturday night on a road in Colleton County. Authorities confirmed the fatal collision, while the South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Carter first gained national recognition in 2023 during Season 24 of The Voice with an emotional blind audition of I Look to You, which he dedicated to his mother after her death the previous year. His heartfelt performance impressed all four judges, who turned their chairs in support.
Judge Niall Horan praised the audition as spectacular, while his coach Reba McEntire said it was the kind of performance that truly touches the heart.
Following news of his passing, McEntire shared a tribute online, remembering Carter as a bright, talented, and kind young man who brought warmth and positivity to the show.
Moncks Corner Mayor Thomas Hamilton Jr. also honored the singer, saying the community was heartbroken. He described Carter as a gifted performer whose appearances at town events brought joy to many and whose kindness made a lasting impression.
Carter had been scheduled to perform at Moncks Corner’s “Music on Main” event this week, which has since been canceled as tributes poured in from fans and friends.
During his time on the show, Carter openly spoke about grief and healing, saying he wanted to make his late mother proud. After leaving the competition, he reflected that the experience helped him regain confidence and hope for the future.
An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
