A neighbor built a two-story house on the boundary with a window overlooking our plot. What we came up with in response

Many people face the problem of building on the boundary, so we decided to share the solution to this problem.

Everyone knows that it is prohibited to build on the boundary and that it is necessary to retreat at least a meter when building something on your site, especially in the case of building a house.

And so our neighbor built a two-story extension to his house and he did it on the boundary. At first we weren’t too worried about it until he started to build an attic with a window onto our plot on this extension. It was the window that really upset us.

When we realized what he was going to do, we first decided to talk to the neighbor, but he told us that he already had everything planned and he was not going to change the house design just because we didn’t like the window that overlooked our property.

Then we went to the local Architecture of our city, where they told us that the neighbor was indeed breaking the law, but we still couldn’t do anything, since he wouldn’t remove the extension in any case. Even if we filed a lawsuit against him and of course won, it wouldn’t bring any results, since the neighbor wouldn’t face any consequences for not complying with the court’s decision.

We had a small shed built next to our neighbor’s extension, and we decided to remodel it a little, namely to make it taller and build a roof so that it would cover the neighbor’s window. Like this:

But before we started the remodeling, we warned our neighbor that we were planning to make a high roof that would block the view from his window. By the way, our shed was built according to all the rules and we retreated the required distance from the boundary when we built it, although it is not a capital structure.

This is how it looks now, and we are happy with the result.
