The idea to make an ottoman from plastic bottles was born spontaneously, like many of my husband and I’s creative experiments.

It all started with a regular cleaning at the dacha: in the corner of the garage we found a whole bag of plastic bottles, which for some reason we hadn’t had time to send for recycling.

“Just look at all this stuff!” the husband exclaimed. “Maybe we’ll finally make something out of it.”

I liked the idea right away. Recycling is great, but giving things a second life with your own hands is a completely different matter. And I’ve long dreamed of a small ottoman for our terrace, where we like to drink coffee in the morning.

First, we sorted the bottles: we chose only those of the same size so that the structure would be even. Then we started looking for a way to secure them.

Scotch tape came to the rescue – not one roll, but three! We connected the bottles together into a tight cylinder, re-gluing them so that the structure became as stable as possible.

The next step was the soft layer. We used an old foam mattress that had been gathering dust in the attic for a long time.

We wrapped our workpiece with it and secured everything with fabric tape. Now the structure looked like a real pouf, only without upholstery.

We decided to make the upholstery from old thick fabric with an interesting print, which was left over from the curtains. I cut out the necessary pieces, and my husband helped stretch and secure the fabric with a furniture stapler.

Once our pouf was ready, we placed it on the terrace, where it immediately attracted the attention of the neighbors.

It turned out so cool that now we are thinking of making a few more poufs.
