That was the case with nurse Brandalyn May Porter, who noticed a surprising detail on the hands of an elderly woman…
A post that went viral on the internet
When Brandalyn posted the photo on social media, people first saw only the hands of an elderly woman. Nothing special. But after they read Brandalyn’s words, those hands appeared in a completely different light.
The photo has been shared over 160,000 times.
The image and caption were posted on Facebook and received an incredible response.
“Today I painted a grandmother’s nails in a nursing home. We were discussing colors and she said she wanted clear polish. The only thought that came to my mind was, ‘Clear?! That’s boring.'”
I asked her why she wanted clear polish and she said, “My hands are ugly, I don’t want to draw attention to them.”
Then I said gently, “Your hands tell the story of your life. They tell of love, care, and adventure. With these hands, you have touched and held things that many can only dream of.”
After that, she chose pink for her nails. Sometimes what we consider our shortcomings is something beautiful for others.”
How wonderful that the nurse was able to give the elderly woman self-confidence!
