A trip to the grocery store transformed a girl’s life forever. The seven-year-old noticed something unusual on a milk carton and begged her stepfather to buy it for her; little did they know the implications.
Bonnie Lohman had a peculiar childhood, spending much of it moving between Saipan, Hawaii, and Colorado. While the other children were playing and learning to read, she was inside the house with her mother and stepfather.
As Lohman grew older, her parents gave her greater independence and let her play with their neighbors. She was eager to accompany her stepfather to the grocery shop and was intrigued when he pointed to a milk carton.
The picture on the milk carton
Lohman’s stepfather featured her visage on the side of a milk carton. The girl was perplexed, but requested if she may keep the carton and cut out the image.
He agreed, but instructed her to keep it a secret. Lohman explained, “I remember cutting it out and staring at the picture.” She kept the photo in her toy box and had no idea what it meant because she couldn’t read.

When Lohman forgot her toy box at the neighbor’s house, they discovered the photo and responded quickly. The family discovered she was a lost child.
Lohman recalls authorities raiding her home and arresting her parents before she was reunited with her biological father. It was a difficult period for the seven-year-old, who didn’t really comprehend what had occurred.
She was scared.
The reunion with her biological father was not joyful or loving. She had no recall of him because her mother and stepfather kidnapped her when she was three.
A sobbing Lohman said, “I remember being afraid because I didn’t know my father. It sucked. Lohman longed for her mother for a long time, but she ultimately bonded with her father.
Grateful for her life.
During her absence, Lohman was denied numerous fundamental requirements, including schooling. Fortunately, she had access to numerous new chances with her father by her side.
She went on to say, “I know who I am because I was discovered on a milk carton. I was able to have a wonderful life, and I am glad for that.”
Another “Milk Carton Child”
Lohman was among the thousands of children that appeared on milk cartons. Unfortunately, the majority of them were never discovered, and Johnny Gosch was one such youngster.
The Iowa citizen vanished in 1982, becoming the first face on a milk container. Initially, authorities were skeptical that he had gone missing, but when similar occurrences occurred in the neighborhood, they became increasingly concerned.
ANOTHER CHILD KIDNAPPED BY PARENT
Children go missing more frequently than thought, and the culprit is not necessarily a stranger. Like Lohman, a child was taken by someone close to him: his father, Valentin Hernandez.
Steve Hernandez was removed from his mother in 1995, and they would not reunite until more than two decades later. Maria Mancia never stopped searching for her son, and she finally got to hold him again in 2016.
