Far from the bustle of the city, Wayne Adams and Katherine King have been living for almost 30 years. They call their property “Freedom Bay” and say they wouldn’t trade it for any luxury apartment.

Their unusual adventure began in 1992, when a young couple decided to leave the bustling city behind and build their own little house on the water.

Their first home was a modest 15-meter houseboat, where they even got married. But over the years, their dream grew with them.

When children appeared in the family, it became clear that the space needed to be expanded. So, step by step, from a simple house a whole island grew, reminiscent of illustrations to a fairy tale.

Today, Freedom Bay is a whole complex on the water. It has not only living quarters, but also a spacious kitchen, an art gallery, a boat garage, and even a real lighthouse that illuminates the waters at night.

Despite the remoteness from civilization, Wayne and Catherine have everything they need for a comfortable life. Electricity is generated by solar panels, and heat is provided by a good old wood stove.

The family gets water for drinking and household needs from a nearby waterfall, and gets food literally without getting up from the couch – there is a special hole in the floor of the house for fishing.

In addition, the couple has taken up agriculture in earnest. They have built five greenhouses in which they grow fresh vegetables and fruits.

It is curious that Wayne built this entire wonderful “floating village” practically with his bare hands – he only had a hammer and a hacksaw.

Their son, inspired by his parents, also built himself a floating home nearby. Now their family history continues on the water.
