Jack Nicholson’s son looks exactly like his father, but fans are divided about details.

Jack Nicholson may have gone from the big screen, but few moviegoers would forget his distinctive, megawatt smile. One of his rarely seen offspring, Raymond, or Ray Nicholson, has recently scored breakthrough roles and is following in his father’s footsteps. While Ray believes he looks like his famous father, he claims he has never been identified as Jack Nicholson’s son.

Jack Nicholson recently astonished everyone by introducing Adam Sandler’s performance at SNL 50th Anniversary Special to thunderous applause and shouts. Nicholson, dressed in black from head to toe, with a beret and dark spectacles, looked pretty elegant alongside other celebs such as Robert De Niro, Will Ferrell, Ryan Reynolds, and Blake Lively.

Nicholson was last seen in the 2010 film How Do You Know. Nicholson claimed at the time, in response to reports of retirement, that he simply wasn’t as motivated to “be out there anymore.”

Meanwhile, his son Ray, who turns 34 in 2025, is slowly emerging from the shadows. While Ray has been in the movie business since 2006, it wasn’t until his appearance in the 2024 horror film Smile 2, which pays homage to his father’s character in The Shining, that he broke through.

Ray Nicholson says people mistake him for others.

Ray Nicholson is in a good spot, with two back-to-back releases in 2025: Borderline (in which he portrays a mad, obsessed fan) and Novocaine, a robbery. While his likeness to his father is striking, Nicholson claims that some think he looks like other celebrities instead.

In an interview, Nicholson admitted, “Most people say, ‘You look like Leo (as in Leonardo DiCaprio)’ or ‘You look like Sebastian Stan.'” “I thought you were Sebastian Stan!”

He acknowledges it’s surprising because he and his father look so similar, and we have to agree, the smile is nearly identical. His statement has piqued the interest of admirers, who appear to be split on who he genuinely looks like.

Some fans notice the likeness, while others do not.

Fans are split on whether he resembles his Oscar-winning father. One Instagram user quickly commented, with a facepalm emoji, “He looks exactly like his father; how could people mess that up?”

Another admirer agreed that he did not resemble his father, saying, “I don’t think he looks like Jack at all,” prompting a response from a seasoned moviegoer, “It’s because young people don’t know that this is what Jack looked like when he was young!”
