“Rare and So Scary!” Meghan Markle Tells the Truth About Her Postpartum Health Issue

Meghan Markle honestly highlighted the hardships of postpartum life on her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder, providing light on her own experiences with parenthood, health challenges, and the emotional toll of juggling family and career duties.

During the conversation, Meghan acknowledged her profound love for being a mother to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, saying, “I love being a mom so much. That’s my favorite thing.” She did, however, admit the hardships that come with the role, particularly because both children had lately been ill. She highlighted the value of honesty and self-compassion in parenthood.

Meghan also discussed her experience with postpartum preeclampsia, an uncommon and possibly fatal syndrome marked by elevated blood pressure following childbirth. She characterized the experience as “so rare and so scary,” highlighting the difficulty of handling such a significant health issue while also performing her obligations as a mother and public person.

Meghan discussed the emotional impact of her miscarriage and the value of resiliency. She compared her experience to that of Saujani, who endured comparable challenges, highlighting the common struggles that many women undergo in silence.

Reflecting on her experience with a rare postpartum medical problem, she stated, “You’re still trying to juggle all of these things, and the world has no idea what’s going on quietly.” And in the silence, you’re still trying to show up for others, namely your children, but those are major medical concerns.”

Throughout the show, Meghan emphasized the need of self-awareness and the guts to seek help, asking for more transparency about the realities of parenthood.
