63-year-old woman believed she was in a relationship with Enrique Iglesias.

A fan of the artist lost thousands of dollars after assuming she had an affair with her idol. Her spouse tried to open her eyes, but she remains skeptical of scams.

Guadalupe Cepeda has been a fan of Enrique Iglesias for almost two decades, so when the singer reached out to her on social media, she couldn’t believe it. He apparently found her via an online fan community, and she didn’t think it was strange that the man who has been the dream of millions of women for nearly thirty years chose her for a virtual connection.

Their “affair” began two years ago, and despite the fact that Cepeda was married to another man, she hoped to marry Iglesias. She intended to divorce her husband and run away with the Spanish superstar. But before they were meant to meet together, “Enrique” asked her to wire him money.

Guadalupe talked with “Enrique” for two years before sending him several thousand dollars, believing that he was in desperate need of the money. When his insistence on her sending him money grew too much, she informed him that she no longer worked, but he cruelly ordered her to steal money from her husband or find another source if she truly wanted to remain with him.

The woman’s husband discovered the hoax after finding their communications on her phone. However, instead of confronting her and threatening to leave, he attempted to “open” her eyes. He tried to explain to her that she was not talking to Enrique Iglesias, but rather to an importer who was attempting to extort money from her, but she would not listen. Even tracking down the source of the star’s messages in Nigeria did not sway her decision.

Guadalupe’s husband was understanding, despite her resistance to admit the obvious. He decided to appear on Univisión’s Primer Impacto program and share her romance narrative in the hopes of ultimately discovering the truth. The segment went viral, and the world quickly knew about her romance with a scammer posing as Enrique Iglesias.

Surprisingly, even after the broadcast on state television, Guadalupe remains skeptical that the man she has been exchanging messages with for the previous few years is not the actual Enrique Iglesias. Her husband summoned the Spanish singer to come out and explain that it was not he who was speaking to his wife.

“My feelings are honest. Cepeda told the Spanish singer, “My marriage is dissolving because I adore you.

While Enrique did not immediately comment to the bizarre incident, he did recently post a statement on Instagram urging fans to be cautious and only trust his official channels to avoid similar scams.
