Hunger is the number one problem for all stray and abandoned dogs. Once they are left without food, it is only a matter of time before the inevitable happens. Food is absolutely essential for puppies to survive in harsh external conditions. However, only a lucky few manage to get proper food every day. The rest live on scraps, garbage, branches and stones – if they can find anything.
Levi, a cute puppy with striking multi-colored eyes, was one such dog. She was cruelly abandoned in front of an abandoned school and tied to a fence. It is unknown how long she had to endure these conditions, but she was found in absolutely terrible condition.
On the edge
When a kind-hearted passerby spotted Levi tied to a fence in front of a school in Missouri, he was absolutely shocked by what he saw. The dog had no food or water nearby and was skin and bones
They immediately contacted animal control officers, who assessed the situation. Realizing that the dog was severely malnourished and in need of proper care, they took him to Stray Rescue of St. Louis .
Despite the lack of space at the moment, the SRSL team was more than ready to accommodate Levi. She was on the verge of a tragic end and needed immediate support.
Luckily, the experienced team knew how to help! After comforting the puppy for a while to make sure she was relaxed, they came up with the right plan to help her.
“She is scared but already crawling into our laps for comfort and safety. She weighs only 23 pounds,” Missouri Rescue posted on Facebook.
Levi was fed small meals around the clock, day after day, to avoid refeeding syndrome . In this way, she was gradually accustomed to food, and the results were incredible within just a few days.
Ready for a new life
A week later, Levi was a completely different dog. She was still underfed and not quite ready for her new home, but her energy was back. And, with the energy, her happy spirit was back !
All Levi wants to do is play! She’s just a sweet, carefree puppy who couldn’t be happier with her current situation. She’s finally away from the abandoned place, in a new environment, ready for new adventures!
Besides, she is very sociable , which makes her even cuter.
Levi already has a best friend, Alaric , who she spends most days with. Their energies are perfectly matched and they are absolutely crazy about each other !
“Not only did you fall in love with them, but they fell in love with each other! They are both at a safe enough weight to leave the shelter and go into foster care,” SRSL said.
