Emma and Lucas met through mutual friends.
From their first meeting, they had a deep connection. Just a few months later, Lucas proposed to Emma, confident that he had found the woman of his life.
She agreed with trepidation, her eyes shining with happiness. But on the day of the ceremony, everything changed. While Lucas was impatiently waiting for Emma in a white dress, she showed up… in black.
“Why are you wearing black?” he whispered, confused.
“Your mother told me everything,” Emma answered dryly.
– What do you mean?
– She said that you cheated on me with Clara and were going to go to her. This dress is a sign of farewell to our love.
Lucas was dumbfounded.
– Emma, it’s not true! Clara is just a friend. I never betrayed you.
– You’re lying, Lucas. As always.
“My mother wants to ruin our relationship,” he objected.
– It’s not just about cheating. I found out your other secret. You hide the fact that your family is on the verge of bankruptcy. You want to marry me to save your business – not out of love.
Lucas turned pale.
– Let me explain everything…
“You shouldn’t,” Emma interrupted. “I was stupid to believe you.”
Without another word, she turned and walked out of the church, leaving Lucas standing there, stunned and heartbroken. His friends tried to console him, but he knew he had lost everything.
For months, Emma refused any contact with Lucas. She couldn’t forgive. In the end, it was Clara who came to talk to her.
“Emma, I understand your pain,” she said. “But believe me, nothing ever happened between me and Lucas. He really loves you.”
Emma looked away.
– How can I trust him again?
“At least give him a chance to explain,” Clara insisted.
After much deliberation, Emma agreed to see Lucas. They met in a small, secluded café. When she entered, Lucas looked up at her with hopeful eyes.
“Thank you for coming,” he said. “I want to tell you the truth.”
“I’m listening,” she answered reservedly.
— I never cheated on you. It was a mistake to hide my family’s financial difficulties. I was afraid you would think I was with you for the money. But I love you, Emma. Sincerely.
Emma’s eyes filled with tears.
– I don’t know if I can trust you again…
— I ask for only one thing — a second chance. I want to restore what we had.
After a pause, she sighed and nodded quietly.
